PROJECT LOCATION

In the project area, Kuruvakkalam Village, Pollachi District of Tamilnadu State, South India  the mission has purchased nine acres of land in which it is proposed to construct “ANPIN KARAM” for Children affected  with HIV/AIDS.

In our target area most of the people living with sad situation, many are with out proper medical Care, Alcoholism and drugs, malnutrition, sex workers, environmental pollution, women, and youth are to be sensitized to the issues and problems.

In association with our programme World Council of Churches (WCC) funded to start the initial project and it’s in progress to achieve our goals.

St Thomas English Medium School is the new initiative/venture of the diocese in this area. Presently the school has classes from nursery till 1 Std. The present strength of the school is 73. The school was started for educating the children of unprivileged community especially for the Children Affected with HIV/AIDS,
 

BACKGROUND

The incidence of a case of HIV/AIDS in a mission field was an eye opener to the church. Accordingly, Rt Rev Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos, Episcopa, proposed this project to address this issue.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES

The present programme of “ANPIN KARAM” Consists of

  • Pastoral Care and Counseling for People Living with HIV/ AIDS
  • Vocational training and livelihood support too the deprived
  • Child Sponsorship Programme to find sponsors for each child from the HIV/AIDS affected families or Orphans. Supply of educational materials to school going children of affected families.
  • HIV/AIDS Awareness and Educational Activities through IEC Materials
  • Infrastructure development provides construction and maintenance of houses and other facilities
  • Facilitating formation and strengthening of Community based organization for their sustainability and motivating development of their skills.
  • Medical Camps to cure the common aliments.
  • Meeting with Key Stakeholders (PRI, SHGs, CBOs, Anganwadi Workers, etc.).
  • Support Services- Supplementary Nutrition and medicine
  • Creating referrals and linkages for Medial care.
  • Recreational Activities- Entertaining and educating the children affected with HIV/AIDS and educating the children affected with HIV/AIDS

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

  • Enhancing the quality of Life of the poor People Living with HIV/AIDS by providing community based care and support to them.
  • To bring out the potentialities and talents of the children through specific events.
  • Improve the well being and protection of orphans and other vulnerable children, and
  • Decrease the burden of HIV/AIDS on children, their families, and communities.
  • Giving Fellowship and Counseling.
  • A holistic approach to Children affected with HIV/AIDS
  • Networking with other agencies
  • Supportive environment for reduction of stigma and discrimination

GOAL OF THE PROJECT

The overall goal of the project is to reduce the HIV related morbidity and mortality among children and their family and also to address the impact of HIV on children

AIM OF THE PROJECT

The project aims at improving care and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS and children affected/Infected by HIV/AIDS to enable interventions, which keep them with their parents or extended families.
